States With Highest Energy Cost

Energy costs are continuing to rise in most states. Here is a list of the top 10 as of May 2023. These numbers reflect the average rate in each state.

Hawaii – 42.26 ¢/kWh

Connecticut – 31.32 ¢/kWh – 26% Increase over last year

New Hampshire – 30.67 ¢/kWh – 33.1% Increase

California – 29.78 ¢/kWh – 8.8% Increase

Maine – 29.26 ¢/kWh – 21.2% Increase

Massachusetts – 29.01 ¢/kWh – 21.2% Increase

Rhode Island – 26.92 ¢/kWh – 35.1% Increase

Alaska – 24.86 ¢/kWh – 3.5% Increase

Vermont – 21.03 ¢/kWh – 2.6% Increase

New York – 20.47 ¢/kWh

2 states out of the top 10 did not have an increase over the previous year. Whereas that seems like a positive thing, that also means that they’ve been high for some time.
